Osram LED Concept Headlights Featured in MaseratiNarrow bluish LED headlights fit perfectly in the stunning overall design of the Maserati Birdcage 75th, which was premiered at this year's Geneva Motor Show. The concept headlights feature twelve high-power OSTAR LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors for exceptional brightness. Colour effects around the edges of the headlights add to the excitement and sensuality of this unusual vehicle.Under the bonnet of the sleek Birdcage 75th a 700 horse power engine delivers up to heart-stopping 250 mph. Pininfarina has taken the sporty M12 chassis and developed a car that ticks all the boxes for speed, sensuality and styling. This is a dream car that gives us a glimpse of the future.Pininfarina is pushing the boundaries not only in design and speed, but also on the level of equipment. Hence, LEDs are used for all the exterior lighting. The concept headlights are truly spectacular - a joint development between Pininfarina and OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. Just twelve high-power RGB LEDs from the OSTAR family are used to provide intensive bluish light. These RGB light sources are ready to install and consist of one red, one blue and two green thin-film chips, a metal core board for connecting to the heat sink and ESD (electrostatic discharge) elements that provide reliable protection against overvoltage. At 120 lm, these LEDs are much brighter than all other solutions.The corners of the headlights contain white and amber Power TOPLEDs for position and indicator lights. Flexible boards equipped with red Power TOPLEDs were chosen for the rear light cluster. They follow the contours of the vehicle perfectly. MULTILEDs with amber and red chips provide the rear indicator and brake lights. The headlight housings are milled from solid blocks of aluminium to remove the heat from the LEDs. The concept headlights do not meet legal requirements as they lack the appropriate optics and cover glass but they showcase how spectacular new designs featuring high-power LEDs will look like.
